i saw warsaw
current location: 30 Tamka street, warsaw, poland.
current time: 11.51.54
current weather: sunny day, blue skies, cloudless
current sounds: the zooming of cars and lorries and motorbikes across tamka street, random clanking of plates and cutleries, random voices of ppl in the hostel, water running down the sink
current thought: why did i miss my flight?
current plan: walk out of the hostel doors and wander around till night falls.
ok. so i did miss my flight. it was.......... weird. do not ask me how i manage to do that, because i wouldnt be able to explain it. i do not know!!!!
it was 22nd may, 2008. i left studentenstadt early, in time for checking in my luggage. and so i happily checked in my luggage, saw that i still had about 40 minutes to boarding time, wanted to walk through the gates, decided that we should wait for chinguan to pass him his sleeping bag...and after he arrived, we did the self-check in with him for his flight which was an hour after ours, walked briskly to the gates, showed our boarding pass to the security who didnt mention anything about us being late wadsoever, or didnt give a clue that our names were called as the staff claimed. and when we finally reached our boarding gates 10 minutes before take-off ( the gates were right at the end of the terminal), the guy standing there gladly asked: to warsaw? you're too late. you missed your flight.
and so started our long journey to poland.
it was an experience that completes my euro trip... how can anyone say they've travelled or backpacked ard europe without such experience??! hahaha. well it sort of tested our ability to make do with what we have, to try and explore all means of transport from munich to warsaw. rebooking another flight was out of question, it costed more than 600 euros.
so in the end, here was what i did:
book an 11pm train from munich to regensburg, wander around regensburg from 1am to 5am in the cold with all our luggages, then take the 5am train from regensburg to prague.
spent a day in prague in czech republic which in my opinion is the most beautiful city in europe. and then an overnight train from prague to krakow where i met the sailing team. we were a day late. but.... we made it!!!!
and the return journey would be:
bus from warsaw to vienna (4.15pm to 6am, God bless my butt)
a day in vienna (bird!!!! sigh if only u were around!!!)
overnight train back to munich.
i will survive this long tedious journey. im dreading it. i cant wait to be back in munich, in the comforts of my room.

today is a friday!!!!!
somehow i've stopped exclaiming 'TODAY IS A FRIDAY!!!!' excitedly to everyone after ive come here. life has been so relaxing that everyday is a friday. its been such a prolonged holiday.
so this is how my day went: woke up at 9. spent more time in bed in between dreams until 11, and off i went to our favourite supermarket marktkauf to buy my sleeping bag for the poland trip. it was just 9.99 euros! bought my food too finally, been living with a lack of food since i came back from paris.
the afternoon was spent cooking with edward. our lunch menu was a western meal of black pepper pork steak with gemüse und kartoffeln (vegetables and potatoes).
and he wanted me to shop for a backpack with him, so out we went on our voyage. firstly, we borrowed shermaine's bike. secondly, i tried to practice pillioning him BUT!!! i simply couldnt. so i ended up trying to teach him how to ride a bike, holding the back of the bike and getting him to pedal on. after an hour, we gave up and decided to walk. and so we got lost in the englischer garten, ended up on expressways, biergartens, and everywhere else that we didnt mean to go to before we finally saw shops! but those had no backpacks. and so we bought sun block and another sleeping bag for chinguan instead, and ginger and spring onions, and we bravely embarked on our adventure by foot through the englischer garten back home.
and this time i din get lost!!!!! but it still took 1 hour so.... yea i dun think it's such a good idea to walk to the supermarket. but but but. along the way we passed by playgrounds and we stopped to play on the seesaw which was super fun!!!! u get that freefall feeling in your stomach. havent played on the seesaw for so long that i almost forgot how fun it could be.
and we saw billy goats fighting, many many many sheeps of different colours, black bodied snails with cool spiral shells you see in cartoons but not in singapore, totally nude ppl sunbathing, a bunch of horses crossing the Isar (some river). which reminds me. i wanna go horse riding!
and we finally got back a little before 8pm. thats the great thing about summers and the long days and short nights it brings. sun sets at around 9pm. and we cooked our famous chicken rice from scratch with linlin and her bf, and we finally got to eat at 10pm.
sounds like a great day? you bet.

reminiscing switzerland
and all its shades of white and blue
in zurich:
1. on the train from munich to zurich.
2. i was so happy to see snow all around me! talk about suaku ppl being brought up in tropical climates.
3. racalet... some typical swiss dish, where they heat a whole block of cheese above the fire, and scrap the top most layer of melted cheese onto potatoes or bread.
4. train from zurich up to Uetliburg.
5. View from the Uetliburg station.
6. Hiking from the Uetliburg station up to 'Top of Zurich'. Had lots of fun sliding around in the snow and making snowballs!
7-8. I'm on the Top of Zurich!!!!
1. my hostel room in zurich.
2. the old central train station in zurich.
3. Polybahn- a train that's angled around 30 degrees, and it climbs up a slope. at the top is the zurich university. i checked the mensa (canteen) out, and the food there is horribly expensive, even after the student's discounted price!
4. exploring the neighbourhoods.
5. view of the alps from a cruise in zurich.
6-9. in Interlaken.
hiking trip in interlaken. it was nice and relaxing to just spend a day hiking around, and exploring the different paths in the mountain. the trek i took was called wanderweg.
1. the view from the jungfraubahn, on our way up to jungfraujoch, the highest train station in europe with an elevation of 3471m.
2. me and the jungfraubahn!
3. on the way up, i passed by KleineScheidegg, and saw this. so many ppl were skiing! we totally had no intention to ski, because we were not dressed correctly, and also because the plan was just to go up to jungfraujoch.
4. on the way down from jungfraujoch, i couldnt help but decided to stop at kleinescheidegg for a while, just to hang around and explore the place and watch ppl ski.
5-6. BUT........ me being me and loving such outdoor sports, i went into the shop, enquired about the prices, asked if it was possible for us to just have an hour of lessons (because it was late and there was a last train to catch and the shop was closing soon), just to try skiing out, and WHALA.... I SKIIED!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEE. it was such a great experience.
7. the motorized snow vehicle that brought us up to the learning slopes.
9. me with my certificate, that said that i skiied at kleine scheidegg!
1-2. Lake Brienz. The lakes in switzerland are so perfect they seem fake, almost like there was a huge postcard in front of me.
3-9. We took a hike up one of the mountains opposite Lake Brienz. The houses there are typical swiss houses i see on the television, the ppl are friendly, they greet you whenever you walk past them.
in Luzern:
1. stopped by Luzern for half a day, on the way back from interlaken to zurich. In the distance is Kapellbrücke (Chapel bridge), a famous Luzern landmark.
2. Outside the central train station.
3. Wasserturm (water tower), another famous luzern landmark. its beside the chapel bridge.
4. on the chapel bridge.
5. The lion monument or the Löwendenkmal. It is the famous carving of a dying lion by Bertel Thorvaldsen, commemorating the hundreds of swiss gurads who were massacred in 1792 during the french revolution, when the mob stomped the Tuileries Palace in Paris.
6. a street in luzern.
7. At Lowenplatz.
8. Central train station in the distance.
9. Lake Luzern.
pretty swiss souvenirs of which i couldnt buy any cos the shop was closed!

1. why doesnt singapore import such delicious ovaltine drink?
2. my super expensive dinner of just spaghetti with mushroom sauce and a few potatoes that cost me 10.75 francs! at the migros restaruant, which was the cheapest place to eat in switzerland.
3-9. night scene in zurich. the buildings are churches. and that girl is a jap girl i met at the hostel. we explored zurich with her on the last day, because i found her sitting alone in the hostel room not doing anything, and i asked her if she wanted to go and walk around with me.
and that concludes my swiss dream.
